Recovering from Football

Okay, I had been updating the directory until I got to Kenneth Massey's site. It bogged downed the old laptop. So I got a new laptop that was much faster. It bogged down. Yet I think I have recovered sufficiently from football season that I can now tackle it a different way. Keep watching here and I will let you know when I'm finished.

Big CFL Game

You might not have noticed, but a season-record crowd went to watch the second and third best teams shoot it out at Edmonton. The crowd got what they came to see as Calgary marched into town to upset Edmonton 35-34. Just thought you might want to know.

Nutshell Updated

Gave up on the last three games out West. Got up at three-thirty this morning and completed Nutshell NCAA Football Ratings. Nutshell Girl actually finished before I did this week. Posted hers and Nutshell Combo. I'm thinking it would be a good idea to go back to bed and contemplate how we did on Todd Beck's Prediction Tracker. I'll dream about NFL Football kicking in as well as getting our CFL Ratings updated. Isn't football great?

MegaRanking

The reason I am up late is the weather. It rained and my Internet service went poof. Yet I have successfully posted the new MegaRanking - the combination of fans, oddsmakers, and computers.

CFL Ranking Comparison on the Way

Joe Kasulis, a regular contributor to the NFL and CFL sections, is now tracking the CFL Rankings. It will be posted on Nutshell Sports soon for all to see. Of course, it will have its own page. It just seemed that my CFL page would be a logical link until we get it posted. I'll post the actual link on the blog once it's up. I'll also have more news Sunday or Monday.

NFL Odds Ranking is Up

The same team is number one as was last season. However, number two is closing in. It looks like an old rivalry is possible in the Super Bowl. Well, maybe.

The Twits at Twitter

I don't know how many of you are tweeting on Twitter but I will tell you something that might happen to you. Once it does, you will feel the way I do about the twits that run it. I have moved my Tweeting to Jaiku because of this. I will never go back. If Facebook can come along to challenge MySpace, then I am enthusiastic about whoever comes along to challenge Twitter who gets constant free advertising in the media. If there's anyone who doesn't deserve it, it's the twits at Twitter. Here's what happened to me: Link.

More Effort

I will try to keep this blog updated more than last season. I didn't get a very good start but I feel that since it's in David's directory, I'd better supply a little football information. Steve Wrathell has expanded his football ratings to include all levels. The newest entry is Schmidt Computer Ratings. You can click the link on David's directory at http://www.nutshellsports.com/wilson/ .

David's Directory

David Wilson's famous American College Football - Rankings directory is coming along slowly. I've made it down to Kenneth Massey's entry where I suffered great trepidation. There are something like a million links and my browser will be working up a sweat.

Missing Raters

As I have worked my way down the list, I have noticed that several of the raters seem to be missing. If you know their whereabouts, please let me know where the following raters and rankers have moved:

Gridmarks - Thomas Benson
AB3 - Al Borrego
RankR - Ron Bronson, Jr.
Josh Chambers
Huskerfan - Alex Colton
EFI - Larry Elrod
KeKe-Moon - Battaile Fauber

Some of the missing will probably show up later.

Clyde's Annual Ranking

Just in case you missed Clyde Berryman's annual post-season top 40, here it is.

NCAA Playoff Proposal

Here's an interesting proposal for a playoff system:

Link

The argument is that a playoff would hurt the bowls. His theory doesn't seem to cause a problem. My own simplest argument (and I don't know what could be any simpler) is to play all the bowls as we do now but have an additional three games. After all the bowls are played, have one more BCS Poll. Take the new top four and match #1 against #4 and #2 against #3. In this setup, the Rose Bowl could go back to being the Rose Bowl when it was good. With all the bowls being played and three extra games of such high caliber, please explain again to me how money would be lost. I just don't get it.

Starting Again

Wow! Has it been a year since the last post? The posts below are still valid as far as I know. The only real changes are that I did indeed win a couple more awards. My wife - the first female sports rater that any of us know of also won an award in her first complete season. Wow! again. I will check the links below again when I get a chance. Henceforth I will be telling you what sorts of sports goodies I find as I totally overhaul David's College Football Directory. I am going to put a lot of work into it this season as I did when I originally expanded David's listings to sports other than College Football. Once I am finished, there will be a totally new directory.

rec.sport.football.college

If you're a real fan as I am and you want to kill some time (and a lot of it) start at the top. I consider this the capstone of the football pyramid.

RSFC Home Page

Mike Sabin

I like to visit Mike's site occasionally, especially at the end of the season when he publishes his Bowl Rooting Guide. That's when I find who to boo. Usually it doesn't do any good but I do it anyway.

I'd Better Try Harder!

In researching Todd Beck's Page, I discovered that I had won more awards than I thought. That's pretty amazing since I am always experimenting and sometimes drop an exceptional method to try out a new theory. I might revive a system or two.

What's sad is that I haven't revised my NBA in a couple of months, I think, and I'm still in fourth place. I think I'll update it tomorrow and make a run for the finish line.

Here are the awards Todd Beck has blessed me with:

2000 Best Against the Spread - Yourlinx NFL Ratings
2005 NFL Best against the Spread - Nutshell Predictive Ratings (shared)
2006 Most Retrodictive Wins - Superlist NCAA
2007 Best Against the Spread - Nutshell NCAA Football Ratings (season and second half)

I need to get my act together and win more awards.

Todd Beck

The logical place to start when getting ready for the season is Todd Beck's Prediction Tracker.

The Blog is Back!

This blog is to keep you updated on sites linked on David Wilson's Ratings and rankings page. David has built this page over many years and this season it will get a complete overhaul. It will still have the same appearance but will be easier to navigate and more informational. Are we ready for some football? Gee, whiz, yes. Why does it have to end?
