Time to Stop

I probably won't do any more updates this week. I am supposing that David and Jon and Joe will have some new things to do next week. If not, I will continue down the Additional Links page. I have plenty left to do.

David Ewold

Does anyone know where his College Football Top 40 has moved?

Update

Pulled all useful links from Additional Links through Carl Banks. Added article to Todd Beck's listing. You won't see some of those links until I redo those pages.

Another Missing Rater

Anyone know what happened to Carl Banks? It seems to me he had a problem he had to deal with. I'm not sure.

Basic List Complete

All entries on the College Football Page have been updated. It's time to go through Jon Rogers' list to see what else needs to be added. It is up to David as to which sites will be added. In the meantime I will start going through the Additional Links page for links that need to be added to the currently listed sites. After that will be Jon's and Joe's pages - NFL, College Basketball, College Baseball, CFL, and UFL, in that order.

John Wobus

Wobus Ratings has been updated.

Break Time

That's it for today (maybe). I've made it down to the last thirteen. So far the updated entries are up to 103 and Jon Rogers has found some more to add. Still a lot of work to be done but the majority of it is complete.

Ray Waits and Rick Workman

The MegaRanking, including Middle Game Ratings, Oddsmaker Ranking, and Workman Poll (FCSTop25), has been updated. The strange thing is that I discovered I don't have a link to it from most of my site pages. Oops!

Ray Waits and David Wilson

The College Football Superlist has been updated. There are still changes to be made to a few of the components before the season begins.

Ray Waits

The Middle Game Ratings and the Nutshell Retrodictive Ratings have been updated.

Micki Waits

The Girl's (alias Nutshell Girl's) Rating has been updated. As far as we know she is the only female sports rater in history. We don't know why.

Hank Trexler

Hank's Power Ratings has been updated.

Missing System

The Sports Report is no longer doing ratings but post their most talented teams.

Another Missing Rater

Bradley Terry's site is not reachable. Anybody know what has happened to him?

I'm in it for the Fun

My "career" in ranking sports teams began as a teenager in the '70's. I was a fan of the Top Twenty for college but there didn't seem to be anything for the NFL. So I began to rank the NFL teams which later led to ranking college teams. Then I discovered the Internet. There was David Wilson who kept a directory of college football rankings which mesmerized me and who also gave that madman ranking king Kenneth Massey a place to start. I just had to get in on the fun. My first success was to get a column on Kenneth's Ranking Comparison Page. Next was to be listed on David's directory. The final accomplishment (and the only real thing that remained unless I've missed something) was to be included in Todd Beck's Prediction Tracker. But that wasn't enough. Ranking teams was a great hobby but I liked to see how others ranked the same teams. David let me get involved in maintaining his college football directory and even expanding it. This season I hope to see it in its greatest form yet and actually have a couple of other raters who are interested in maintaining certain pages. I'm out of control. There's just too much fun, now. By the way, listen to my voice of experience. I've seen dozens or possibly hundreds who thought they were going to have an ongoing rating system who have come and gone. Do not suppose you are going to make money by jumping on the bandwagon. The attitude to get involved in rating teams is as a hobby. Very few make money but a lot of us are perpetually addicted to what we are doing. If you survive, that's what you have to be. If you do give it a shot, though, good luck. We welcome your opinion.

My View on Conferences

I know there is the possibility that the superconferences are being built up to get out from under NCAA rule, but I am a football fan. The whole concept of having conferences is so that all the teams therein can play each other to see which team is best. I don't like having large conferences where they can't. Conferences are getting ridiculously large. Some of them have divided into two conferences and take the winner of each division to a conference championship game. However, there are still circumstances in which one team may be chosen over another team even though the two teams never played each other. That is stupid. In my opinion all the FBS teams should be divided up by area into sixteen conferences. All the teams in the conferences should play each other. All the winners would play by area until only the national champion is left standing. Lots of inter-conference games would also be played for entertainment but would obviously have no bearing on the sixteen-team playoff. One season I remember in the NFL the Rams won the conference over the 49ers even though the 49ers won more games within the conference. That's stupid, too. Am I asking too much? Think of all the travel miles my suggestion would save. I would still want to see games like USC-Notre Dame and this wouldn't interfere with the arrangement. What do you think?

Changes on NutshellSports.com (or possibly NutsHellSports.com)

David Wilson has been maintaining our (his and mine) Superlists as well as my NFL and NCAA Football Historical retrodictive ratings for some time. Since my time is short I have decided to drop a lot of the things on my site in favor of having more time to work on David's directory. I am cutting my site down to the following pages: NCAA Football, NFL Football, MLB, NBA (all the preceding include my ratings, The Girl's ratings, and the Combos), the CFL, and UFL. The last two are easy because there aren't many games. I will no longer be maintaining the NFL and NCAA Odds. Those are time-consuming and have provided no income. I've already seen what I suspected - the the odds makers rank the teams similar to the way I do, although they get to add a lot of factors into the week that I can't because, after all, I'm ranking the teams, not the next game. Thus the only really time-consuming thing I will be doing is the NCAA Football. The NBA and MLB are time consuming as well but don't interfere much with football. Kind of makes me wish I had taken the time to learn programming skills.

Update

The number of sites that have been updated are now 98 out of 114. There will also be a few new sites added. We're getting there. A good number of previously listed raters have been removed from the page but we're still looking for their ratings and interesting stuff. Once the main page is updated we will begin to replace the other pages as well. The number of people volunteering their time and effort to maintain David Wilson's directory is growing. Remember that we appreciate any help or ideas you would be willing to contribute. Our goal is to keep David's directory the best on the Web because we use it, too.

Missing Rater

Does anyone know where Robert Rohde has disappeared to?

Jeff Self

Jeff Self's Football Ratings have been added thanks to Jon Rogers locating them. Jeff is in the process of moving his site.

Caleb Sayre

The Sayre College Football Rankings are updated but it is uncertain as to whether or not they are going to be active this season. If Caleb or anyone else knows, please let me in on it.

Jeff Sagarin

Jeff Sagarin, the one who really popularized computer sports ratings through the first national newspaper, USA Today, is updated.

Getting Down the First Page

The College Football page is the most popular page in our directory. David Wilson has been maintaining this page for a long time. Once we get the current entries updated, we will be adding some links Jon Rogers has rounded up. Then we will tackle the rest of the directory. I hope you will see the complete updated directory by the beginning of the football season.

New Contributor

Jon Rogers has joined our team as a contributor and watchdog. He will be overseeing certain pages in the directory. Lots of thanks for the work he has already put in which you will see later.

Sef Dresslar

Huckleberry's College Football Ratings have been updated.

Standing

As of this post, all but 25 ratings are updated on the College Football page. The next page I will do is the Additional Listings page. I will move the items there to the masterpage and post the new College Football page and Additional Listings page. Everything after that will be simple - move the links on any given page to the masterpage, then copy all the relative information as the new page, the replacement. Someday I'll get around to cleaning up the HTML.

Extent of Update

All items from Scott Albrecht to Mike Sabin are updated. Some entries after that are also updated - about ten. The sad part is that the five (in which I or my wife is involved) of the 25 remaining ratings are still waiting. I'm outdated!

David Rothman

This item has been checked.

Mike Rudicille

Contribute Useful News

You can also contribute items you find interesting here. If I think it fits within the guidelines and really is interesting, I will post it here and David or I may place a link to it in the directory or elsewhere.

Contributors and Watchdogs

You can help maintain this directory by helping to gather information. You can also be a watchdog by letting us know when something is amiss. See the Contributors page.

Robert Rohde

He says he doesn't have time to maintain his site. I can relate to that. Hopefully, later, he can start it up again.

Another Missing Rater

Sad Day

Last Monday, I think, I updated a couple more listings. Then my Internet and I had an argument. We didn't make up that day so no more got done. I had a meeting to attend and right before the meeting the Internet started working. What a lovely day it was. I don't see any problems this coming Sunday or Monday. Unless the police show up to arrest me for something I haven't done yet I'm going to tell whoever has a problem that I'm just too busy and football season is approaching. I tried to get this done before last season and I'll be darned if I'm going to let it beat me again.
